Psoriasis will appear as patches of silvery scales
or red areas on the arms, legs, knees, elbows, scalp, ears, and back. Toes and fingernails can become pitted and develop
ridges. The condition is not contagious. Psoriasis normally has a pattern of flare-ups alternating
with periods of remission, most common between ages of 15 and 25 however may appear at other ages as
well. Attacks can be triggered by tension, stress, and nervousness. The
root cause of
psoriasis is not known, however it may be related to faulty utilization of fat. Current research also
indicates a immune system role in psoriasis. The buildup of toxins in the colon has also been linked so
a colon cleansing maybe very helpful.
Many times the condition is genetically passed, involving a
rapid growth the skin's outer layer of cells. These growths
never mature on the person's skin. A normal skin cell will
mature and pass go from the bottom layer of skin to the
epidermis layer in around 28 days.Psoriasis is not contagious
and normally follows a pattern of flare-ups that repeat. Other
things that may trigger psoriasis include: illness, stress,
surgery, cuts, poison ivy, viral or bacterial infections, and
sunburn. People with alcoholism
or drug addiction problems
are also at higher risk of psoriasis. There are drugs that
also may trigger psoriasis which are: lithium, chloroquine,
beta-blockers, and other drugs used for heart disease or
high
blood pressure. Research also indicates there is an immune
system role in psoriasis, and people with HIV or
AIDS
often have severe psoriasis.
