Vascular retinopathy
is a term covering any of a group of retina disorders of the eye
caused by problems affecting the blood vessels, either locally "in the
eye" or "throughout the body".
These
problems may cause:
-
retinal hemorrhage which is leakage from the vessels that transmit
the fluids of the eye
-
microaneurysms which are abnormally enlarged blood vessels in the
eye
-
retinal edema which is the accumulation of fluid in the eye
-
loss of eyesight
Many
cases of this eye disorder are linked to either
diabetes,
high blood
pressure or both. Diabetic retinopathy is considered a form of vascular retinopathy.
