Cardiac arrhythmia are disruptions
in the natural rhythm of the heartbeat and is normally
caused by improper functioning of the electrical system
cells in the heart. There are different kinds of
arrhythmias. Palpitations means a feeling of a pounding
heartbeat. Tachycardia is an abnormal increase in the
resting heartbeat. Bradycardia is the opposite an
abnormally slow heart rate. Ectopic beats are premature
beats often felt as "skipped beats". Flutter
and fibrillation are situations in which the normal
steady beating become rapid twitching of the heart
muscle. The best prevention of arrhythmia and other
cardiovascular problems is not smoking
especially cigarettes, reducing high
blood pressure, reducing cholesterol levels if you have
high
cholesterol, reducing stress. People that
have obesity/weight problems are more at
risk of heart problems including arrhythmia. Dietary changes and good nutritional
supplementation with vitamins, minerals, and omega fatty acids listed
below can help either prevent or heal.
Nutrient / Supplement
|
Importance (1 to 10) |
Helpful notes
|
Multi-vitamin & Mineral supplement |
10 |
vitamin B complex,
inositol, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E all serve to help lower
blood pressure and help with regular heart beat thus good for
people who have arrhythmia problems. A daily supplement provides
nutrients needed for good general health and well being. |
Carnitine |
10 |
helps in the
transporting of long chain fatty acids which aides in prevention
of heart disease, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular
disease. Great when combined with a omega fatty acid and flax
seed supplement. |
Coenzyme Q10 |
9 |
increases oygenation to the heart
and has been shown to prevent recurrences in people who have had
a heart attack. |
Magnesium |
9 |
low intake of magnesium has been
linked to high blood pressure and may also help with arrhythmia,
a good source of magnesium is a quality multi-vitamin & mineral
supplement especially one with calcium, zinc, and garlic. |
Calcium |
8 |
important for proper functioning
of the cardiac (heart) muscle and is a companion to magnesium
see above. |
Omega fatty acids |
9 |
important for reducing
blood pressure and also increasing blood circulation as well as
preventative aid on general heart health. Fatty acids are found
in omega fatty acids from fish and flax and borage seed oils
from plants. |
Lecithin |
9 |
serves as a fat
emulsifier |
Hawthorn |
9 |
herb that helps both
the heart and cardiovascular system |
vitamin C |
8 |
vitamin C helps high blood
pressure, hypertension, heart, and cardio-vascular problems by
improving adrenal function. |
Bioflavonoids |
8 |
work with vitamin C |
Niacin |
8 |
vitamin B3 helps lower
LDL cholesterol |
Thiamin |
8 |
vitamin B1 works with
vitamins B3 and B6 |
Pyridoxine |
8 |
a lack vitamin B6 has
been linked to heart disease |
Folic acid |
8 |
deficiency in folic
acid may cause increase in levels of homocysteine an amino acid
linked to heart disease |
vitamin E |
8 |
strengthens the heart
muscle and the immune system, improves blood circulation and
kills free radicals |
Potassium |
7 |
needed for electrolyte balance
especially if you take blood pressure medication. |
Selenium |
7 |
low intake of this mineral has
been linked to heart disease and cardiovascular problems like
arrhythmia, a good source for selenium is a natural
multi-vitamin with complete mineral supplementation or a
Cardio support supplement like
Cardio Essentials. |
Garlic |
8 |
garlic has been shown
to help lower high blood pressure and help with other
cardiovascular disease. |
